My budgie has long nails not just that!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

now my budgie has really long nails and it sometimes bites them now i know that there's a vein in each of the budgies nails it bit one to short and now you can see the vein a little and the rest are really long im gonna go to the vet later to trim my budgies nails but WHAT SHOULD I DO WITH THE TO SHORT ONE :'(My budgie has long nails not just that!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
Please don't use sand paper. Would YOU want to stand on something like that all of the time? Purchase a cement perch. They are a little pricey, but it will be cheaper than taking your bird to the vet on a monthly basis, and it won't be nearly as rough on feet as sandpaper will be. http://www.strictlypetsupplies.com/_7533鈥?/a>My budgie has long nails not just that!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
Well I guess the answers before answered the bleeding part. Its true just keep everything clean and if it is bleeding just put flour on it and the bleeding will stop. If you don't like visiting the vet to trim its nails a lot then you can get something called sand paper. Sand paper is paper with sand on it (obviously) that helps trim your birds nails while it walks on it. Just lay the paper at the bottom of the cage and the bird will get used to it (hopefully). The sand is ok to eat it. You can purcahse it at Petsmart an Petco. Sorry but the paper might always work if your bird dosent like it.
if it bleeding put flour on to stop bleeding. the budgie won't pick at it now cause he fixed his such-long-nails-that-it-bothers-me-and-s鈥?The vet will clip the nails and the short one will grow back. Problem solved =)
They sell perch covers that have grit on them to sand the nails down naturally.

IDK about the short one. Just keep everything clean to reduce the chance of infection.

Long and Natural. But more importantly clean nails. There's nothing more disgusting than seeing nail grunge when kissing my girlfriends hand.
Short. Natural, acrylic... doesn't matter.

My fingernails are splitting. I have always had long beautiful nails.?

my doctor told me to use more zinc in my diet. I bought pills. They didn't seem to help. I buy expensive creams and polish .

Any help is appreciated. My fingernails are splitting. I have always had long beautiful nails.?
Exposure to water (frequent hand washing, doing dishes, etc.) will dry out nails and cause splitting/peeling. The water rinses away natural oils and the nail absorbs some water causing the nail layers to expand. As the water evaporates, the nail layers contract leading to splitting/peeling. (like paint exposed to the elements)

My nails used to peel constantly so I stopped using a nail clipper and only use a nail file to shape and shorten them. I also started protecting my nails with thicker moisturizers.

I read somewhere that nail clippers can cause the layers of the nail to separate and filing is the best way to go.

I started with Revlon's disposable files made for weak nails. File in one direction only. Start on one side and file towards the middle, then go to the other side and file towards the middle of your nail. Smooth the nail into a squoval that mirrors you cuticle or the shape of the white part of your nail bed.

Finish the edges of the nail with a hindo stone, a smooth ceramic/stone nail file or the finest grit nail file you can find. You want to make the edges really smooth.

Revlon makes a tool that should work. It is a pink half moon shape and you can run it under/across the nail from side to middle.

(I have an old hindo stone but haven't been able to find a replacement at a local store. The Revlon tool might be easier for you to find.)

(photo of hindo stone http://www.enailsupply.com/browseproduct鈥?/a>

Also, avoid using metal nail files. I recommend using disposable nail files and changing them frequently. The fresher the grit, the less the drag which leads to tearing and peeling.

Some people swear by glass nail files but they can shatter if dropped.

I also use a cuticle balm or nail oil to moisturize my nails and protect them from water since I wash my hands frequently.

(ex. Solar Oil, OPI Avoplex)

Vit E oil, jojoba oil, Aquaphor Healing Ointment, Vaseline or plain Chapstick will work too.My fingernails are splitting. I have always had long beautiful nails.?
Dip your fingernail is aromic oils.

The usual cause is repeated wetting and drying of the fingernails. This makes them dry and brittle. This is often worse in low humidity and in the winter (dry heat). The best treatment is to apply lotions containing alpha-hydroxy acids or lanolin containing lotions such as ';Elon'; (by the ';Dartmouth'; company) to the nails after soaking nails in water for 5 minutes and after getting the hands wet.

Try to wear gloves when performing household chores that involve getting the hands wet to avoid repeated wetting and drying of the nails. Cotton lined rubber gloves can be purchased in stores.

If soft, consider that the nails may be getting too much moisture or being damaged by chemicals such as detergents, cleaning fluids and nail polish removers (the acetone containing removers are somewhat worse than acetone free). Some feel that once a week application of clear nail prep once a week may help. Nail polishes with nylon fibers in them may add strength.

Be gentle to you nails. Shape and file the nails with a very fine file and round the tips in a gentle curve. Daily filing of snags or irregularities helps to prevent further breakage or splitting. Avoid metal instruments on the nail surface to push back the cuticle. If the nails are ';buffed'; do this in the same direction as the nail grows and not in a ';back and forth'; motion because this can cause nail splitting.

Biotin (a vitamin) taken by mouth is beneficial. Gets the ';Biotin ultra'; 1 mg. size as it also comes as much smaller pills and take 2 or three a day. It takes at least 6 months, but does really help at least 1/3 of the time. Do not take this if you are pregnant. Calcium, colloidal minerals, and/or gelatin don't help consistently.
Soak nails in some warmed olive oil. This is an old, simple and wonderful remedy. Soak for 5-10 min. once a day until you see improvement. Wipe your nails gently with a tissue after treatment.
take biotin

How can a 12 year old girl nails grow long?

After you'v had a bath gently push the cuticles back, thats the little bit of skin at the base of your nail, and massage olive oil into the skinHow can a 12 year old girl nails grow long?
eat very healthy, maybe take a vitamin, and use a nail strengthener. Make sure your nails are kept clean and shaped and that you push your cuticles back. How can a 12 year old girl nails grow long?
Keep nail strengther on them all the time. Try Sally Hansen - Triple Strong. It's a strong clear polish that can be used alone or over your favorite nail color. Another idea is to eat a cup of jello every day. Something about gelatin is good for nail growth. Good luck!
Stop biting them or get a pedicure every week!!!

  • Hey, i have a hamster and i was just wondering how do you no if the nails are to long? ta xx?

well basically you can kinda tell id say about... 1 - 2 inches long and then cut themHey, i have a hamster and i was just wondering how do you no if the nails are to long? ta xx?
Usually their nails don't grow too long. I've had hamsters, and have never had to cut them. They don't grow much and are too small to cut anyway. Since they are small, cutting them might result in injury. If they are too long and you are worried, i'd go to a vet, but i don't think you need to cut them. All of my hamsters have lived to 11/2 to 2 years, and have never needed their nails cut.Hey, i have a hamster and i was just wondering how do you no if the nails are to long? ta xx?
i have ten hamsters and i never had to clip there nails. i ask a pet store and they said dont worry about cause it wouldnt bother them they only live for bout three years

How do I stop biting my nails? I want longer nails but I can't stop!! I need to break the habit!?

Simple, but hard work: It just takes constant willpower to stop biting your nails. You need to be aware of each time that you feel like biting your nails, and figure out in that situation something else you can do instead. For example, each time that you feel like biting your nails, take out a nail file and just gently smooth the edge of the nail, and the urge will pass. Also, make sure you are using hand lotion after each time you wash your hands, which will keep your hands and nails moisturized. You should generally keep your nail edges filed smooth, so that there are no little bits that are tempting to start to bite, and there are no rough parts that will snag on things or break off. After a couple of days you will start to see the difference in the health of your nails, and then you just have to keep at it every day. After about 2 months of not biting your nails, that actually becomes your new habit, and you just have to stay on top of those situations where you want to go back to the comfort of the habit of biting and keep dealing with it.How do I stop biting my nails? Start cutting your nails short, and there's also a sort of

nail polish you can buy that's clear,

it has a horrible taste and if you bite your nails it will taste

disgusting, I had the same problem.

It's not too expensive, you can get it at Walgreens for about

    3 bucks. Walmart also has it, it's called ';Stop the bite.';

Also, chew gum, having something in your mouth will

give you less of an urge to chew. How do I stop biting my nails? I want longer nails but I can't stop!! I need to break the habit!?
i'm working on stopping biting my nails, too. what i do is use clear nail polish. i think they make some specifically for this that tastes bad, but i just use normal- they feel shiny, and if i put them in my mouth i notice the smoothness and it reminds me not to bite them! if you use a brand designed to strengthen the nails, (i use sally hansen's hard as nails) it also makes them more effort to bite, so that helps too.

    good luck!
I have the same habit!! And i hate my nails what worked for me is i would put a rubberband on my arm and everytime i would start chewing i would snap it so it owuld hurt and my nails got pretty long
Paint your nails in a polish that tastes reealy bad. Or you can soak your fingers in nail polish remover. Or find a different habit, like braiding your hair or keep your hands busy.
Put some vinegar, or something really bitter, under your nails. Then, when you bite them and don't like the taste, your brain will get you out of the habit.
    Get a knew habit.

    Chew gum.
theres this type of nail polish, that has this horrible flavor, you can find it at walmart and anyother place
as u're bitting it, always remember it will never grow and it wont look nice when u're finished. then stop.
Rub some lemon, vinegar or nail polish remover on your nails and that will stop you!!!
use hand sanatizer!!! seriously that stuff tastes sick, but it will also keep your hands clean!! hope i helped!! :]
put lemon juice on ur nails. so if you bite them, it'll taste sour and u wont want to anymore.
they have nail poshe that taste like onions
