How long do you need your nails?

to be able to have acrylic of gel nails applied? How long do you need your nails?
Not long at all. Ideally, about 1/8'; of free edge should be present (the 'white' part at the tip of your finger). If they are any longer than that, the tech will just file them off anyway. The reason is that the acrylic nails - or gel nails, do not need much of an area for either the plastic tip to adhere to, or the nail form to be applied to in the case of sculptured nails (no plastic tips). I've done plenty of full sets on nailbiters who had nothing for a free edge, and they come out good - though it is a bit more of a challenge to do those kind of nails. How long do you need your nails?
Any length.. I have been a nail biter since I was a child, and my nails are way down, I mean they don't even get near the tip of my finger and I always wear acrylic. When I am in between sets, I can't seem to leave them alone, so I bite again.. Sucks!!! But yeah any length works!!
Nails are long when they are healthy, that's why they are long (They don't brake as often, they grow faster and stronger..) I would strongly not recomend gel nails if you have weak nails.

For stronger nails try and include more grain and milk in your diet.

The do not have to be long. They can be down to the ';quick'; and still get acrylics. But beware that acrylics really hurt your nails. If you have weak nails already you may not want to take the acrylic route!
