Long Nails?

I was wondering if it is true that nails grow faster in the summer than in the winter. If so, why?Long Nails?
I found this information out for you ....

During the summertime we tend to be more active, our blood circulation increases, we are warmer, causing our nails to grow faster.

Healthy fingernails grow about 1 mm per week.

It takes about 3 months for a whole nail to grow.

Nails grow faster in Summer than in Winter.

They also grow faster when we are young or pregnant.

The nails on the hand you use most grow faster than on the other hand.

Toenails grow half as fast as fingernails but are almost twice as thick - they have 5 layers of nail plate rather than the 3 on the fingers.

Nails are made in the Nail Matrix, part of which can generally, but not always, be seen as the nail moon.

The Matrix extends down to about half way between the cuticle and the first joint of the

finger or toe.

Nail is very similar to hair - they are both made of a protein that has gone through a process called keratinisation, a 'hardening' of the proteins into what we recognise as hair or nail.

Nails are porous and so can absorb creams, liquids and gels.

It takes about six months for your fingernails to grow from the root all the way out to the nail tip.

It's not your imagination. Your nails do grow faster in the summer than in the winter.

Your cuticles, the soft layer of skin at the bottom of your nail, protect your nails from bacteria.

Push them back after showering. Don't cut them.Long Nails?
Yes, and hair is the same way. Other factors which can affect nail growth are: age, time of year, activity level, and heredity. Fingernails grow faster than toenails. The nails on your dominant hand grow faster than those on the non-dominant hand. The nails on your middle fingers grow faster than any other fingers. Also, men's nails tend to grow faster than females, except perhaps during pregnancy and old age. And finally to answer the question as to why nails grow faster in the summer, it is because heat increases the rate of all metabolic processes. Also, we tend to increase our activity levels in the summer (increased blood flow to the nails = increased nutrients delivered to them which in turn increases their rate of growth. Same for your hair), as well as eat more fruits and vegatables that are rich in nutrients which help the nails -and hair, to grow.

I hope this helps!
yes, indeed it is true.

this is because of the warm climate...it's just how it is!
Yes it is true because of the warmer weather same thing happens with your hair!
Yes, nails grow faster in the summer, due to people being warmer and having better circulation. Also, cold weather is drying to nails, which also makes them more brittle and prone to breaking.
